Introducing OnControl

Advancing the Process. Enhancing the Outcome.

DriverThe process for accessing bone marrow, largely unchanged in half a century, takes time and can be difficult for both clinicians and patients.

That's why Vidacare is proud to introduce the OnControl™ Aspiration System and the OnControl™ Biopsy System.

With more than 600,000 bone marrow diagnostic procedures done in the U.S. annually, and an estimated 3.9 million globally, these procedures can be difficult due to the pain involved for the patient and the strenuous nature of getting the marrow for the clinician.

For patients, the ability to decrease discomfort during bone marrow aspirations and biopsies can lead to a reduction in the need for analgesia and sedation, while lessening the anxiety many experience.

For the clinician, a faster, easier way to perform bone marrow procedures can lead to time savings and minimum patient pain, as well as a convenient way to obtain marrow.

The development of the OnControl™ Aspiration System by Vidacare for bone marrow aspirations is the first effort in decades to improve the safety, control, and comfort of the aspiration procedure. Expanding upon Vidacare's EZ-IO technology, the OnControl Aspiration System, commercially available in the U.S. and in many international markets since 2007, meets the needs of hematology/oncology patients and clinicians by combining a lithium powered driver with a specially designed, patented needle set to obtain marrow. By providing greater ease and rapid insertion of the needle set, the FDA-cleared System contributes to reduced levels of patient pain.Early data from aspiration needle insertions using the OnControl System reflects a median pain score of 2.0 (scale of 0-10), with only seven percent of patients scoring pain at a level above 6.0.

Appropriate for all patients requiring bone marrow aspiration, the OnControl Aspiration System also addresses the challenges of patients with hard bone cortex, those with osteoporosis or fragile pelvises, and those for whom aspirations have previously been difficult or painful.

Vidacare also addresses the needs of patients and clinicians when a bone marrow biopsy (trephine) is required. The OnControl Biopsy System, also FDA-cleared and CE-marked, has been developed with the goals of improving patient and clinician comfort, ease of use, and reliable core capture. This system will be commercially available in the U.S. and international markets mid-2009.

In accessing the bone marrow — whether for aspirations, biopsies, or marrow harvesting — the OnControl System promises to be one of the most significant developments in decades.
