EZ-IO Product System Indications and Contraindications

Indications

The EZ-IO® product system is approved for patients weighing 40 kg and greater using the EZ-IO AD and for patients weighing between 3 and 39 kg using the EZ-IO PD. It is indicated whenever traditional vascular access techniques are not possible or require too much time to achieve a successful insertion. This may include:

• Altered level of consciousness
• Arrhythmias
• Burns
• Cardiac arrest
• Dehydration
• Diabetic complications
• Head injury
• Hypotension
• Overdose
• Respiratory arrest
• Seizures
• Shock
• Stroke
• Traumatic injuries
• Other medical conditions when immediate vascular access is required

Contraindications

• Fracture (fluids may extravasate into subcutaneous tissue)
• Previous orthopedic procedures near insertion site
• Pre-existing medical condition
• Infection at the insertion site
• Inability to locate landmarks
• Excessive tissue over the insertion site
